It's said "You have to live the Blues to sing them"; if that's really the case. then Jamesetta Hawkins (Johnny Otis reversed her given name to form her "stage name" ) ... did just that.
Life and her own choices treated her mean as a junkyard dog with a leg bone. But her majestic voice and an indomitable spirit let her soar above it, on occasion. On enough occasions, in fact, that she eventually won 6 Grammy's and 17 Blues Music Awards and is a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Blues Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame ... TWICE.
On this show, we pay tribute to Etta. Ranked #22 on Rolling Stone Magazines list of the Top 100 singers of all time. We also play songs by a few of the women who have been influenced, or inspired or both, by "Miss Peaches". Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Alex Nester, Lisa Mills and Marcia Ball, all, are heard tonight.
If you like Blues and R&B ... then THIS is yer' huckleberry.
