Clairy Browne & The Bangin' Rackettes (with their new CD relase in the US), Alex Nester, Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside and Alabama Shakes form the cornerstones of this show. Americana, Roots, R&B and Blues fill in the gaps. Fairly typical stuff for a Dawg River Radio Show.
The Skipper opens his massive iTunes Library, sets the levers to auto-pilot then sits back and watches the blinkin' lights whilst he lets iTunes select this shows music. From what we hear a good time was had by all
This show is totally artists who have performed, or will this weekend at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Except for a handful you'll hear at the top of the show, all these folks are NOLA based. Theresa Andersson, Marc Broussard, The Neville Bros, Dr. John and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue are just a sample of what you'll hear.
Adam Scott, is the very 1st Australian to be presented his "Green Jacket" (a seedy ol' green blazer) as the Master's Golf Tournament Champion. Despite your views on Golf, this was an epic accomplishment. SO.. as a tribute of sorts by Yer' Skipper he does almost the entire show with the music of bands from Down Undah'.
Reports from The Nosh in Yarrawonga say it was a show enjoyed by all. Give it a listen!
This is another of yer' Skipper's "schizo" shows. Hell, he even starts the thing with 21st Century Schizoid Man. How's that for originality? I know.. don't even bother to answer.. he's pitiful... (read more)
One of The Skippers regular listenin' scrubs turned 'im on to a band of youngsters who hail from her neck o'th woods down there below the beltline in Yarrawonga, Down Undah. They're called Woodlock and they're pretty damn good! Then the old reprobate started playin' Breakup Songs, Sad Songs and then just plain Blues... Surprisin' enough, it turned out better than havin' brunch in the bilge!
Yer Skipper decided ya' ain't heard nuttin' with a bit o'class in too flamin' long, so he sent some o'th lads ta' chip the rust off an old idea, give it some new parts an' make it all shiny.. almost like new so ta' speak. Then the BRIT Awards got handed out th'Skipper sees a Squirrel an' we're off ta' the races again. Confused? Good.. 'cause so am I. Listen in, maybe you can make sense of it
These saffron toga wearin' scrubs look ta' be havin' a pretty flamin' good time doncha' think? Well .. you can too if ya' listens ta' this show. It is a roller coaster ride though, so make sure yer' bar is in the locked position and none o'yer parts is hangin' over the sides. OH... and Hang On, 'cause there's twists and turns o'plenty.
The title, Untamed Beast, of the brand new release from Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside (from which you'll hear a sample on this show), near perfectly describes the music and artists you'll experience on tonights Dawg River Radio. This is "Roots Music" in all its' earthy Americana and Roots Rock glory (get up off the floor Aussies!

Who's got a Grammy? Not these Legends, nope, not a one amongst 'em. Oh they've got Lifetime achievement,"Sorry we screwed the pooch when you were badass" statuettes presented to 'em after they'd started their "Indian Casino Golden Oldie Tours" or after they'd CROAKED.
NO.. not some kind'a smelly, runny or oh so fashionable "foody" cheese. Hammond ORGANS and Cheesy SONGS! With only a 'teensy bit' of the normal operator error that inflicts itself on these shows. But hey! That's what makes Dawg River Radio the 2 hour waste of time ya'll know and love!
Well, it wasn't really a Mystery to Me; hell, I knew what was next... more or less. We covered most of the Fleetwood Mac incarnations from around '67 up until "Tusk" in 79. It sure seemed longer than that living through it, I can tell ya'.
No hidin' under yer' covers! It's just the Songs that're Covers! There's Aretha covers, Little Eva covers, Al Green covers, Al Kooper covers and even Grateful Dead, Beatles and Led Zeppelin Covers!
The Skipper starts his rampage with a "Pirate Shanty", then progresses through Klezmer/Polka, Swing, Swing/Jazz, Out There Girl Group/R&B, NOLA Funk/Jazz, Americana Roots, Straight Up Rock (who knew?) then some 80's Deviance!
A show not to be missed!
Took an old idea from a year or so ago, tossed the dice and played songs to bring some heat to some of our listeners that were hip deep in cold stuff... Brrrrr.
You'll need to listen to this one to find out won't ya? It starts with a short tribute to Dave Brubeck who passed a couple days before this show then proceeds with some more "kinda' Jazz, Jazz Funk, Funk and somehow to Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top and Cowboy Mouth... among others.
FINALLY! The ancient scrub get's around to finishing this travesty! Lots of Good Stuff in here though
Yer Skipper makes a weak arsed attempt at morale boosting on this show, mostly aimed at one of his harem who's had a spot o'rough sailin lately. So ... take a break and listen in as th'Old Dude plays a bunch o'badass Soul Jams...(read more)
The Skipper had a so-called 'idea'. It did not work. As he does frequently, he threw his Loyal Listeners a curve ball, and he made this one a Dog's Lunch if there ever was one.
This should be titled The AC/DC Show; 'cause that's just what He Did! He played nothin' but AC/DC for almost the Whole Show. Some heard a Lot; like incessantly. Some ... not so much.
Fake German and the crapola notion that Einstein would even acknowledge The Skipper's existential (sic) possibility aside, this show is a KEEPER!
The old fakir rummaged through his iTunes startin' with "A" and tossed the dice. GEnius ensues ... or whichever genius (ahem) dreamed this up should be sued. You decide!
Well The Skipper don't care what Mama don't allow, he did a whole show o'badarse Fried Hockey Boogie anyhow!
Canned Heat, John Lee Hooker, Creedence, ZZ Top, Savoy Brown and even Van Morrison showed up with they Boogie Shoes and boogied 'till the break o'day... well ... for a couple hours anyway.
This show began with yer' Skipper makin' a Political Statement! He never makes political statements on the DRRT but tonight he did an' the karma kickback shot across his bow nearly parted his chin whiskers! (Read More)
It was smooth sailin' on the Bayou tonight. We heard some tunes inspired by a suggestion made by Alex Nester as well as some music of Alex's.
There were also tunes "Live From Darryl's House", Darry Hall that is, not His-High-Holey-Ness SIR Darryl. We ended this epic night with a Sweet Tedeschi Trucks Band song. Don't Miss This One!
That be Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes makin' a joyful noise and the noise she makes is something to behold!
This show features a handful of the Alabama Shakes CD Boys & Girls along with songs and artists you've heard the Skipper play before. It's good stuff Maynard ... get ya' some!
May as well ask a blind man to navigate yer' worm rotted scow through Magellan's Straits in a howlin' gale as to ask me to describe this show and have it make sense.
Yer' Skipper starts out with an Alka-Seltzer ad song, (who knows why, though he attempts to explain) flaps his gums about some Bollywood song but don't play it, then somehow navigates his way to playing a number of songs from Clairy Browne & The Bangin' Rackettes, a new group that hail from Melbourne, Down Under.
The show goes nutz from there on. You'll hear Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Alex Nester, Dusty Springfield and finally.. somehow .. Brandi Carlile with the Seattle Symphony!
All Over The Map, barely covers it!
... but not so stormy as earlier in the week. So yer' Skipper decided to do a show instead of makin' a lame excuse about some minor wind n'rain.
He plays a couple songs with Hurricane in the title, some more that vaguely have to do with seafaring men and then he goes off on some 80's New Wave/Alt Rock tangent that includes The Police, The Pretenders, Wall of Voodoo and more.
Try It! You Might Like It!
